Harold L. DeVine, 78, of Stowe, and formerly of Ellington, Conn., died peacefully on Friday, Feb. 19, 2021, at Center Vermont Medical Center after a brief illness. Harold was the loving husband of the late Sharon DeVine, who left his side in 2015.

Harold was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., on May 16, 1942. He was the third son of Mary (Trexler) and Donald DeVine. The family moved to Hartford, Conn., where he graduated from Hartford Public High School in 1960. After serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1963-1967, Harold settled in the Ellington/Vernon area.

He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years, retiring in 2004. He also continued to serve in the Connecticut Air National Guard as a technical sergeant until his retirement in 2002. Harold was active in the American Legion Post #14 in Vernon/Rockville, serving as post commander and also as 4th district commander from 1984-1985. Harold was also a long-time member of the Italian-American Friendship Club in Tolland, Conn., and the German Club in Broad Brook, Conn.

Harold and Sharon frequented Stowe after their daughter Fran and son-in-law James were married there in 2003. They enjoyed the area so much they bought a home and moved to Stowe fulltime in 2014. Harold was especially fond of hosting his grandchildren, who are avid skiers. Harold found many new friends and frequented the VFW Post 9653 in Morrisville. Some of his other haunts included Hoagies, Sunset Grille & Tap Room, and Burt’s Irish Pub.

Harold leaves behind his daughter, Dr. Francine D. York and her husband, James, of Ellington, Conn., and their children, Jeffery, Molly, James and Mary; his brother, Richard DeVine, of Plainville, Conn.; his sister, Elizabeth (Liz) Olson of Windsor, Conn.; sister-in-law, Hilda DeVine, of Denton, Texas; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife Sharon, he was predeceased by his brother, Donald DeVine, of Denton.

Harold will be remembered as a loving and caring dad and grandfather, proud of his family, their milestones and accomplishments. He left us remembering his smile, a smile that could light up a room.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at which time Harold will be interred at the Stowe Cemetery.
