Frederick W. Killingbeck Jr., 89, of Stowe died June 6, 2014, at home of natural causes. As he wished, there will be no funeral or burial services. His family will gather at a later date to celebrate Fred’s life.
Arrangements were handled by Eternal Blessings Cremation Services.
Fred was born in Torrington, Conn., on Oct. 21, 1924. After high school, Fred joined the Merchant Marine, in which he served during World War II.
He later moved to Stowe and met his future wife, Mary Elizabeth (Betsy) Armstrong Killingbeck. His first impressions of Stowe were magical.
For many years, he was employed in the beer and wine distribution business. Fred was an active outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and gardening. In fact, people often stopped to admire his beautiful flower gardens. He possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of baseball, and always enjoyed watching a good game. He was also an avid Civil War history buff. During his retirement, he greatly enjoyed cooking, reading, crossword puzzles and attending fife and drum corps musters and parades.
Fred is survived by his wife, Betsy; his children, Allison Killingbeck Tewhill, Heather M. Killingbeck, and Frederick W. Killingbeck III; his brothers, C. Edward and wife Marilyn Killingbeck, and Arthur Killingbeck; his sister, Elizabeth and husband Paul Intagliata; his granddaughters, Hannah and husband Ian Paradee, and Lauren Tewhill; their father, John Tewhill; and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and their families. Fred is preceded in death by his parents, Clara (Teti) and Frederick W. Killingbeck Sr.; his brothers, Joseph and wife Roselle Killingbeck, and Kenneth Killingbeck; and sister, Esther Killingbeck.
Fred will be fondly remembered for his wit and humor, storytelling abilities and charisma.
