Carol (Egan) McKeon died on March 14 after a brief illness. She was born in Drexel Hill, Penn., and graduated from Holy Child Academy of Sharon Hill. She went on to earn her BSN in nursing at Villanova. After college, Carol moved to Heidelberg, Germany, where she made friendships that lasted the rest of her life.

In the early 1970s, Carol and her husband Bud moved to Stowe. Following her lucrative career as the coat check girl at Sister Kate’s Saloon, they opened the Fiddler’s Green Inn, where they raised their two spectacular daughters. In 1993, Carol returned to nursing with Lamoille Home Health and Hospice, devoting over 20 years to patient care. She was also a longtime volunteer and former trustee at the Stowe Free Library and enjoyed spending her Saturday mornings with the library staff and the Stowe community.

Carol was an intelligent, warm, graceful, strong-willed, thoughtful, beautiful person. To all who knew her, she exemplified the meaning of the word classy. She loved to travel. She loved to read. She loved her family. And she particularly loved spending time with her granddaughters.

She is survived by her husband, Bud McKeon; her siblings, David Egan, Jerry Egan and Patti Beverly Gilroy; her daughters, Kate McKeon and Kelly McKeon Borchardt; her son-in-law, Paul Borchardt; her granddaughters, Lola and Caroline Borchardt; and countless cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, all of whom she held dear to her heart.

A memorial service was held on March 18 at Blessed Sacrament Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Stowe Free Library.
