Charlene “Chi Chi” Smith, a professional dancer, choreographer and teacher based in New York City, will teach several master hip-hop classes on Saturday, April 5, at Studio 108 in Stowe.
Smith has worked with and danced alongside some of the world’s top hip-hop artists, including Mary J. Blige, P. Diddy, Salt n’ Pepa, LL Cool J, and Snoop Dogg. In 2010, she toured internationally with Shakira as the dance team captain. She has been featured on MTV, BET and network television as well as in commercials and in films such as “Brooklyn’s Finest,” “Old Dogs” and “Annie.”
Smith has taught hip-hop, house and dancehall classes in New York City and New Jersey as well as workshops in Vienna, Austria (Ladies of Hip-Hop Festival); Ontario, Canada (Outside Looking In); Santiago, Dominican Republic (guest choreographer for Ballet Clasico Santiago); and in Veracruz, Mexico (Escuela Cubana de Ballet de Veracruz).
This summer, Smith is making her Broadway debut in “Holler If You Hear Me,” a musical inspired by the music of Tupac Shakur.
Advanced Hip-Hop (1 p.m.) and Intro to House Dance (3 p.m.) for ages 12 to adult are $25 each, and Beginner Dancehall (5 p.m.) for ages 16 and up is $15.
All proceeds will go toward bringing another hip-hop intensive to the area in June.
