Emily Croes, a 13-year-old Stowe Middle School student, will soon don the green blazer of a legislative page at the Vermont Statehouse.
Croes said she applied for the position because she is interested in “making the world a better place, both socially, and environmentally.” Croes would like to learn more about the Legislature and now has the opportunity to “witness it work first-hand.”
The job is a good fit for someone with her energy, as she will soon be running messages around the building for some of Vermont’s most important governmental figures. To become a page, Croes had to submit an essay, letters of recommendation and a school transcript. Her application was picked out of hundreds submitted from around the state.
Croes begins work as a page in April, following a December orientation where she will learn even more about her upcoming duties. Her new position could be an early start to a promising career in government — she says “only time will tell.”
