Defensive end Chandler Jones of the Las Vegas Raiders talks to fans before an NFL game against the New England Patriots in December 2022

The NFL's Las Vegas Raiders released defensive end Chandler Jones on Saturday after a tumultuous week capped by his arrest.

The move came a day after the Raiders said they hoped Jones receives "the care that he needs."

Jones was jailed on Friday after allegedly violating a domestic violence protective order.

Clark County Court records showed he posted bond and was released on Saturday and is due back in court on December 4.

The 33-year-old has not played this NFL season and hadn't been with the team since early September, when he took aim at the Raiders in social media posts criticizing owner Mark Davis, general manager Dave Ziegler and coach Josh McDaniels.

Placed on the non-football illness list on September 20, Jones said in a post on Monday that he was taken to hospital "against my will" by the Las Vegas Fire Department.

On Thursday, Jones, who won a Super Bowl title with the New England Patriots, made a series of rambling posts that featured worrying video of himself.

Jones was in the second season of a three-year, $51 million contract that he signed in 2022.
