February 18, 2017, Stowe Wine & Cheese, Stowe, Vermont

Sandeep and Jaclyn spent their first Valentine’s Day together on a vacation in Stowe. The Manhattan couple visited Stowe Wine & Cheese on the first night, and they knew they wanted to come back the next winter — but Sandeep had something even more special in mind.

“We both recall it feeling like a trip to an old favorite place, yet it was somewhere neither of us had ever been,” Sandeep said.

He got in touch with Ken and Sandie Powers, owners of Stowe Wine & Cheese, to see if they’d be game for a surprise proposal on Feb. 18.

The store was decorated with hearts, balloons and flickering lights, and Sandeep popped the question when Jaclyn walked in the door onto an aisle of rose petals.

“Although, at times I thought we weren’t going to be able to pull it off without Jaclyn finding out, she was totally surprised when we walked into the store,” Sandeep said.

And of course, a Champagne toast was at the ready.

The couple is planning a spring 2018 wedding in their home region of New York/New Jersey.
