4393 Awards: Mr. Lamoille - Hank Glowiak

Hank Glowiak

Local legend Hank Glowiak moved to the Green Mountain State from Connecticut 20 years ago after completing his stint in the U.S. Navy, where he worked on a nuclear submarine. Out of the sea and into the fire — he took a cooking job at The Shed, then took to the land, working at Chuck’s Bikes in Morrisville. He bought the business a few years later and has been running it ever since.

On top of being named Mr. Lamoille, Glowiak was also voted entrepreneur of the year, and Chuck’s Bikes earned best bike shop honors.

Glowiak and his employees can be spotted frequently on Bridge Street in downtown Morrisville as they test-ride the bikes they’ve been working on. Glowiak is honored to represent his fellow Lamoille County residents, but he has one piece of advice for them.

“Turn off idling cars, and ride a bike,” Glowiak said with a smile.

Ms. Lamoille Maggie Cleary gets the nod for the second year in a row, but doesn’t want much fanfare (so don’t tell her we told you how awesome she is — actually, do!). She grew up in Stowe, graduated from Stowe High School and later built a house in Morristown with her husband. She’s worked at different jobs all over the county, including waitressing at local restaurants, gardening and working as the first paid employee of the much-anticipated Morrisville Food Co-op. She volunteers a ton, and spends as much time with her children as she can.
