June 3 S Cayla McCarthy Kudos SC

Shelburne resident and 2011 Champlain Valley Union graduate Cayla McCarthy was recently named to her second consecutive Commonwealth Coast Conference All-Academic Team and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Academic All-American Award. McCarthy recently completed her junior year where she was a team captain for the Roger Williams University softball team. McCarthy was a relief pitcher for the Hawks that ended its season with a 20-17 record. She made 12 relief appearances and won her only start, three no hit innings, to begin the game. She recorded 10 strikeouts against four walks in 14 innings of work.

“I take great pride in maintaining my high academic performance while keeping up with the rigors of a being a player and captain of a college athletic team,” said McCarthy.

McCarthy maintains a duel major in English and Secondary Education and will graduate in 2015.
