Last weekend, six teams from the 802 Lacrosse girls program traveled to Albany, New York to compete in the Battle at the Capital Tournament. The Battle at the Capital is a two-day tournament that attracts teams from throughout the Northeast. 802 Lacrosse, which is directed by Reyn Garnett, is a Vermont travel lacrosse league. One of the six teams that competed for the 802 Lacrosse program was the 2020 White team. The 2020 White team is made up of rising 8th and 9th graders who live in towns between Burlington and Middlebury.

The girls played four games against teams from Connecticut and New York and came away with a record of 1-2-1. For the second weekend in a row, the girls played a number of close, physical games in temperatures above 90 degrees. The 802 scoring was led by Ainsley Hultgren with 8 goals, Sophia Cresta with 6 goals, Hadley Murphy and Christina March with 4 goals, Danielle Sleiman with 3 goals, and Alyssa Provost with 1 goal. Lacey Greenamyre, Siobhan Eagan, and Jaden Thackston led a strong defensive effort.

A superior effort was made by all the mid-fielders who ran up and down the field in the sweltering heat including Lauren Regan, Olivia Doty, Kayla Howatt and Olivia Carleu, and to goalie Ali Wainer for donning the goalie equipment and putting forth another terrific effort. Vermont lacrosse showed extremely well this weekend in a very competitive tournament.
