The Champlain Valley Union (CVU) girls’ cross country team brought home a sixth straight D-I crown, its 11th in a 12 years, while the boys team finished in second place for the third straight year at the high school cross country state championships in Thetford on Saturday, Oct. 24.
CVU sophomore Sophia Gorman grabbed second place (19:44.1), senior Carly Neeld (20:21.9) took fourth. Another sophomore, Meara Heininger, finished seventh (20:37.5) and freshman Jennifer Ireland placed ninth (20:49.8) while senior Emma Putre finished eleventh (20:57.3).
On the boys side, CVU sophomores Tyler Marshall and Calvin McClellan placed fourth (17:23.9) and fifth (17:25.0) respectively to lead the boys’ team to second place just 5 points behind first place South Burlington.
