An audio library of recorded interviews with Shelburne men and women who served in the Armed Forces will be created and made available through the Pierson Library in the spring of 2015. This permanent body of reflection to be titled The Veterans Legacy Library will be directed by Champlain Valley Union (CVU) High School senior Katie Polhemus, under the supervision of Pierson Library Director Lara Keenan. This work will be Polhemus’ Graduation Challenge Project which is a 20-year tradition for CVU seniors. Students take responsibility for their own academic program by designing a course which culminates in a final research paper, a presentation given to the school and community, and an optional tangible product.
The Veterans Legacy Library was inspired by the work of the Shelburne Veterans Memorial Committee. It will be created in the style of the NPR StoryCorps© project. Veterans are encouraged to volunteer. The interviews will be conducted at the Pierson Library.
Interested veterans may contact Lara Keenan at the Pierson Library at lkeenan@shelburnevt.org or (802) 985-5124.
