In addition to the ever popular wrapping paper sale, the Shelburne Community School (SCS) is testing out a new fundraising strategy this year. They’re calling it SCS Community Days. Once a month, the PTO will partner with a local business and will encourage community members to support that business with purchases. In return, the local businesses will kick back a percentage of profits to the PTO.

The kickoff is the Flying Pig Bookstore tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 24. There will be extended hours for SCS shoppers and complimentary wine and cheese from 6:30-8pm. There are new fall titles for parents and great Blue Orange games for the whole family.

To start this exciting new fundraising series on a good note, the Flying Pig will be participating not only for the kickoff event, but every day from Friday, Oct. 24 through Sunday, Nov. 2. When making a purchase during that time, mention the Community School at checkout and the folks at Flying Pig will return 20 percent of proceeds to the PTO.

All other events and fundraisers are one time only, so make sure not to miss them. Open Arms Café will be hosting Dine Out Day on Saturday, Nov. 15, Cucina Antica heats up SCS’s annual Holiday Fair with a Pizza Sale on Dec. 6, Chef Contos puts on her own SCS Day on Jan. 24, Champlain Lanes throws an SCS Bowl-a-Thon on Feb. 6, La Villa holds a tasty Bistro Dine Out Day on March 12, and Burlington Bedroom holds a Furniture Sale on June 6.

You can support the SCS PTO by shopping at participating local businesses throughout the school year, but for now, pick up a holiday gift or something for yourself at the Flying Pig’s kickoff event. You’ll get a head start on your holiday shopping and support a local business and your local school at the same time. It’s a win win win!
