Sixth, seventh or eighth grade students at the Charlotte Central School (CCS) or Shelburne Community School (SCS) won’t want to miss the 3rd annual collaborative activity night on Friday, May 8 from 7-9pm at SCS.

Organized as a fundraiser for the first time by three SCS eighth graders, Megan Rogers, Lauryn Ouimet, and Meredith Gove, all proceeds raised will support the Shelburne Veterans Memorial project and the Charlotte Food Shelf. The evening’s festivities includes a dance with a DJ from Supersounds, gym activities such as ping pong and volleyball, a photo booth, and concessions in the cafeteria. Entry fee will be $6, or $5 with any donation of a canned or non-perishable food item.

When the girls were asked why they chose the Veterans Memorial and the Charlotte Food Shelf as recipients of funds raised, Ouimet responded, “When we were planning a date for the dance, and we chose May 8…Memorial Day was around the corner, and that our school band [that I and Megan perform in] will be on the town green performing. [My] dad was talking about how they were going to build a memorial honoring the local veterans who fought in all the wars, so [I] brought it up…and when we were talking to Charlotte over video chat, they said they always donate to the Charlotte Food Shelf whenever they have a dance, so we both agreed, and Charlotte is very nice to allow us to donate to a local event.”

The girls hope to raise over $250 from the dance, for which they would need roughly 50 students to attend, although Lauryn comments, “it would be even better if we could get more than 50 students to come.”

The theme is “Hawaiian,” and leis will be available upon entrance. Be sure to mark May 8 in your calendar, set aside your best Hawaiian shirt, and pitch in to help support two wonderful community projects.
