Red Nose Day, an international effort which raises money for impoverished children all around the world, was celebrated on Thursday, May 21.

Mater Christi School decided to participate in the effort and enjoy the day at the same time.

The day began with a school-wide assembly with Ilze Luneau from “The Basketball Family” entertaining the audience with her unique basketball dribbling, juggling, and spinning tricks. She spoke to the students about “setting goals, working hard, never giving up, and living in balance with other people.”

Students and staff were invited to bring in at least one toiletry item for Joseph’s House and in exchange were each given a red nose. Eyes of the World in Burlington sponsored the Red Noses. Shelburne’s Susan Holson, Marketing Director at Twincraft Skincare in Winooski, addressed the assembled students and teachers and the company donated over 300 bars of soap.

For the past few years, the MCS community has been collecting personal hygiene and toiletry items for Joseph’s House. The school’s goal this year was to surpass all of the donations of past years and thanks to the motivational quality of Red Nose Day, this actually happened!
