Mayer & Fisk Attend DAR Continental Congress

The nation’s capital welcomed more than 3,500 members of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) for their 124th annual Continental Congress. Attending the annual meeting as part of the Green Mountain Chapter were South Burlington’s Karen Mayer and Dorothy Fisk. During their time at the DAR Continental Congress, members attended the American Indians Committee Luncheon, and State Vice-Regents Club Lunch, as well as business sessions and committee meetings. Highlights of the weeklong event included welcoming respected keynote speakers and award winners during the gala evening ceremonies.

The DAR Continental Congress is a time-honored tradition that has been held, since the organization’s founding, in Washington, D.C. as the annual national meeting of the membership. National, state, and chapter leaders, along with other members from across the country and around the world, meet at the DAR National Headquarters to report on the year’s work, honor outstanding award recipients, plan future initiatives and reconnect with friends. In addition, Mayer took the oath of office as Vice-Regent for the Vermont State Society of DAR.

The National Society DAR was founded in 1890 to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Its members are descended from the patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War. With more than 180,000 members in approximately 3,000 chapters worldwide, DAR is one of the world’s largest and most active service organizations. Commitment to volunteer service is a cornerstone of the organization. DAR members contributed close to 10 million community service hours since 2013.
