Big Chill - Heroes for Epilepsy

Top: Champlain Oil Team. Right: Tyler Willard gets soaked and chilled for fun and fundraising!

In late April, the Champlain Oil Company team from South Burlington participated in the 7th Annual Big Chill Be a Hero for Epilepsy fundraiser as one of fourteen teams who took a dip in Lake Champlain to raise money for the Epilepsy Foundation of Vermont.

The water temperature was a chilly 38 degrees Fahrenheit and the air temperature was 41 degrees Fahrenheit, making it a very cold plunge into the lake.

Champlain Oil organizes a team every year. This year, the team members were Julie Marinello, Alex West, Cooper Gammon, Tyler Willard and his dad Scott Willard, Miss VT 2014 Gina Bernasconi, and Julie Fredette. This was the first time for Alex, Cooper, and Tyler. Alex attends Chamberlin School. Cooper and Tyler attend FHTMS. Scott Willard has done the dip into the lake all 7 years!!

The event raised over $10,000, which will help the Epilepsy Foundation of Vermont provide programs and services for families affected by epilepsy.

The next fundraising event for the foundation is their 5th Annual Walk for Epilepsy scheduled for Sunday, May 18 at Oakledge Park at the Upper Lodge in Burlington. For more information on epilepsy or the Epilepsy Foundation of Vermont, please call 1-800-565-0972 or go to www.epilepsyvt.org.
