The Peoples Academy girls’ basketball team won on the road and at home over the past week, including a nail biter in Danville.
On Monday, Feb. 22, the girls nearly doubled up on Northfield, winning 46-24 and allowing their opponents only five points in the first half.
Monday’s high scorers for the Wolves were Shelby Wells with 21 points and Mychaela Watson with 12. Watson grabbed 10 rebounds for PA.
Last Thursday, Feb. 18, the girls traveled to Danville and walked away with a one-point win, 53-52.
In a game that was a full-bore sprint from buzzer to buzzer, the Wolves were able to outlast Danville’s final quarter push, according to PA coach Amanda Tingaud.
The Wolves led 16-6 after the first stanza, and went into the half with only a 3-point lead. After opening another 9-point advantage in the third, they held on to outlast Danville’s 15-point final quarter. PA went 8-19 beyond the 3-point line.
“Last year we stole a 3-point win at the buzzer from Danville, this year we held the lead the whole game but Danville never stopped fighting back,” Tingaud said. “You always know it will be a tight game playing there.”
Leading the Wolves in scoring were Wells with 15, Melania Fogg with 14 points and 4 assists and Gracie Beck with 11 points and 9 rebounds.
