Update: The Peoples Academy boys won their Division III semifinal game after the deadline for the print edition of this story. This sets up a matchup between the second-seeded Wolves and rival Stowe, who is seeded No. 1. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at South Burlington High School.
The PA boys’ soccer team made it as far as the semifinals in the Division III playoffs when this paper went to press, one game away from a possible state championship against archrival Stowe.
Here’s how the Wolves fared in the past week.
Boys’ soccer
No. 2 PA 2, No. 10 Green Mountain 1
The Wolves moved on to the semifinals after a nail-biter in Morrisville.
Second-ranked PA (12-3-1) continued its push through the harder side of the D-III bracket, drawing No. 3 Randolph Wednesday, in a home game played after press deadline. The two teams did not play each other in the regular season.
If the Wolves prevailed, they’ll play Friday for all the marbles. They’ll play the winner of the other semifinal match, which featured rival, sister school and No. 1 seed Stowe.
The Raiders played No. 5 Enosburg, also Wednesday after press deadline.
No. 2 PA 5, No. 15 Springfield 0
Five players — Aidan Slayton, Max Kuhnle, Charlie Isselhardt, Cooper Shove and Julian Perry — scored for the second-seeded Wolves in the opening round of the playoffs.
Kuhnle and Miles Lane had a pair of assists, with Danny Manning adding a fifth helper.
Girls’ soccer
No. 7 Northfield/Williamstown 1, No. 15 PA 0
The Wolves came up just short of extending their unexpected post-season success in a second-round road loss to Paine Mountain.
The PA girls (2-11-2) stunned the field by knocking out second-seeded Woodstock in the opener.
Cross country
The PA boys finished fifth and the girls finished eighth in state meet held, as always, in the hills and woods of Thetford Academy.
Magnus Hayden was the top finisher for the Wolves, coming in 17th among D-III runners, with a time of 20:35.7. He was followed by teammates AJ West (20th in 20:52.1), Matthew Brown (36th in 22:35.2), Holden Frazee (57th in 24:53), Thomas Arnold (65th in 25:38.3), Dominic Elliott (81st in 32:34.3) and Tyler Douglass (88th in 34:30).
