There is a huge difference between preservation and conservation. I’ve been involved with this debate for more than 60 years.
Conservation is wise use whereas preservation basically means non-use. For years environmentalists have tried to wrest control of public lands from use by citizens arguing that our methods of conservation — hunting, forest management, farming — were detrimental to the environment. Nothing could be further than the truth.
The success of wise use in managing the miraculous comeback of Vermont’s wildlife, streams and rivers is outstanding. This is all at the hands of educated and dedicated individuals based on sound biological research.
The success of conservation efforts is undeniable. This has frustrated the environmentalists to the point of hysterics. Their desire for control is insatiable. It’s their way or the highway.
As a result, they changed their approach and now you have “global warming/climate change.” Five organizations control over a trillion dollars at their disposal to spew hysterical propaganda. They are: 350.org, Sierra Club, Greenpeace, The Nature Conservancy and the World Wildlife Fund. Their claims are not based on sound biological research but for the desire to control people.
For example, the government’s unelected Environmental Protection Agency has made its mission to eliminate CO2 by 2100. That is complete nonsense as CO2 is the giver of life. The green mountains of Vermont are green thanks to CO2. We cannot live without it. This is just an example of the lunacy of this movement.
Patrick Moore, the co-founder of Greenpeace, quit the organization in the late 1990s out of frustration when the organization was embracing a movement to ban chlorine. It’s on the periodic table. Safe drinking water is a good thing. He was the last and only scientist on the board. All the other board members were activists.
Think of how many 12-year periods of time have elapsed since Al Gore made his dire predictions back in the 1990s. If you are still buying the global warming, climate change, existential risk story it’s time to wake up. The real world is waiting for you. Celebrate CO2.
