Vermont State Police had a large presence at a home on Center Road Monday for several hours, limiting access to the area.
State police did not offer any further information on its hours-long presence at the house, saying only that it was “part of an active and ongoing investigation.” When the operation concluded Monday afternoon, police reported no one had been taken into custody, no one had been injured and that the public was never in danger.
The search took place at 205 Center Road, a brown house tucked away from the road, about 400 feet from the Y-shaped intersection with Trombley Hill Road.
Television station Fox 44 reported from the scene that anonymous sources told them the home had been the scene of recent and regular drug sales.
State police spokesperson Adam Silverman would not confirm whether Monday’s operation was related to the investigation into the homicide of two Massachusetts men whose bodies were found Oct. 22 in Eden, but who were known to have been in Morristown before their deaths.
Silverman said only that Monday’s operation was part of a larger, continuing investigation.
Morristown police also declined to comment, deferring to state police. Recent police logs, however, show increased suspicious activity in that immediate vicinity, with recent sightings of individuals walking out of the nearby woods and groups of people yelling at each while walking along Center Road.
Last week, a man was arrested on a warrant after police responded to the area for the third time in two days. The man, Douglas Stokowski, had not been arraigned as of press deadline.
Participating in Monday’s operation were the Vermont State Police Tactical Services Unit, Crisis Negotiation Unit, and Unmanned Aircraft Systems Program.
