On July 1, trash bag fees at Lamoille Regional Solid Waste Management District’s five drop-off locations will increase.
Small, medium and large bags of trash will go from $2, $4 and $6 each to $3, $5 and $7.
“These per-bag fees have remained unchanged since 2014, when Tom Brady had only four Super Bowl rings,” said Susan Alexander, manager of the waste district.
These are the same or lower prices than most other bag drop operations and will bring in much needed revenue to correct for inflation as we also tackle some deferred maintenance.”
In addition to the drop-offs, the district manages recycling of all landfill-banned materials — mercury bulbs, electronic waste and tires — along with another dozen recyclable items like plastic film, textiles and ink cartridges not available through curbside collection.
The district supports its 12 member towns, and its activities are financially supported in two ways: drop-off user fees and a surcharge on every ton of trash disposed in the landfill.
Also on July 1, the hauler surcharge will increase from $21 per ton to $23 per ton.
“We strive to be fiscally responsible while pursuing our mission and, even with this increase, the surcharge will remain lower than all neighboring districts. This increase does not affect drop-off customers, but it does apply to haulers operating in the district,” Alexander said.
