The desire to avoid loss is universal. Yet, likely all of us either have, or know someone who has experienced devastating loss by fire, storm or accident. We are especially conscious of those whose possessions were quickly turned to rubbish by the flood. Why does God allow it?
Here’s a short poem that puts loss into perspective: “To lose one’s wealth is sad indeed / To lose one’s health is more; / To lose one’s soul is such a loss as no one can restore!”
One reason God allows physical loss is to help us understand the tragedy of losing our souls. The pain of losing health or wealth is temporary. We can never keep them for more than a few decades. But the pain of losing one’s soul has no end.
Our faithful creator desires to keep our souls (1 Peter 4:19). The key for us is to give our entire being to God, so that he can keep our souls unto life eternal.
We are extending a special invitation to Jenna’s House in Johnson for a time of a cappella singing and scripture meditation on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 3:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
