Penny M. Kistner died peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023, in Cambridge. Penny was 70 years of age.
She was predeceased by her beloved partner, William J. Bernath.
Penny was born on Nov. 17, 1952, in Fairfield County, Conn. She moved to the Green Mountain State in 1986. She developed a deep love for her adopted home of Cambridge and its residents.
Penny considered her greatest accomplishment to be her three beloved children. Her children remember her as a mother who loved without measure, accepted no excuses and always encouraged them to do their best. Penny was blessed with two wonderful grandchildren and three grand dogs. She delighted in her role as a grandmother.
Professionally, Penny served her community for 43 years as a dedicated nurse. Her medical career was expansive, dutifully caring for patients at University of Vermont Medical Center, Copley Manor and at the Fanny Allen Campus. Her final workplace was Cambridge Elementary School.
She is survived by her children, Stephanie K. Knoblach, Susan K. Bernath and William K. Bernath. She is also survived by her sister, Sally Russo of Connecticut, and her brother, Richard Kistner of Arizona.
A celebration of life will occur on Friday, Nov. 17, 2023, Penny’s 71st birthday, at 5:30 p.m. at Cambridge Elementary School.
In lieu of flowers, her children request donations in her memory to Cambridge Elementary School or Lamoille Home Health and Hospice.
