What a beautiful week we just had with sunshine almost every day with temperatures in the 60s or 70s. It stayed cool in the mornings until the fog burned off and then it would warm up. This was the way it used to be in August but now it is like this in September, and it is warmer in August.
Steve and I saw another sign of fall on Sunday. We saw the corn being cut on a field in Johnson. Not all the corn was destroyed by the flood. I’m sure farmers will be glad for all that they can use.
Dale and Rhoda Mingledorff went to a wedding in Portland, Ore., and then went to see their son, Andrew, and his family, who live in North Pole, Alaska. They were gone for two weeks.
Dereck and Edna Lafountain went to a birthday party at the town hall on Saturday for their great granddaughter, Annika. She is David’s granddaughter and Shyanne and Nick Jetti’s daughter. She turned 1 year old. Happy birthday, Annika.
The Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall event that took place on Sept. 24 at the Waterville Country Church was a great success. About 30 people turned out, and it was a beautiful night. More events will be coming up soon.
Most of last week was taken up with housework, dishes, vacuuming, taking out the garbage, cleaning the toilet, laundry and working on getting the downstairs bedroom settled and cleaned. I did some paperwork and got groceries. Things that had to be done but not very exciting.
On Saturday I took our grandson, Monty, to Burlington for his birthday. On the way we stopped at the harvest festival in Underhill. There were a lot of people there. We looked at a number of things and then we decided to leave.
From there we headed to Burger King for lunch. On the way I stopped at West Meadow Farm Bakery to purchase some gluten-free flour. After we ate, we went to the Christmas Loft. Monty hadn’t been there before.
We then went to Spare Time to go bowling and to do the arcade. I haven’t been bowling for over 10 years. My body was hurting after we were done. I used to bowl a pretty high score but this time I only bowled a 90. I need to do this more often. Monty did quite well. I won the first game and Monty won the second one.
Shopping was on our agenda next. I bought him a pair of sneakers for his birthday.
To top off the day we ate at the Chinese buffet in Essex for supper. This day was a lot more exciting than the rest of the week.
A big thank you goes to the four people who came to be with Steve while I was gone on Saturday. They were Bruce Davis, Jenn Davis, Brian Allaire and Mark Davis.
After church on Sunday our family met at our house for our noon meal. Monty picked green bean casserole and pizza for his birthday, his two favorite dishes even though the two don’t really go together. For dessert we had an Oreo cookie ice cream cake. When Mark’s family was leaving, our cat decided to sneak outdoors.
I couldn’t catch him, so I let him stay outside for the afternoon. At 5 p.m. I went back outside with some cat treats and started calling to him. He hesitated at first but then he came to me. While he ate some treats out of my hand, I was able to grab him and bring him back inside. I think he was glad to come inside by then. Enough adventure for one day.
Waterville sixth graders are planning an event in October.
A happy birthday to Sarah Manchester Collins on Oct. 5.
Have a great week everyone.
