Lee Lauber, founding executive director of the Family Center of Washington County, is retiring, and two top staff members at the agency have agreed to be co-directors during a search for a new, permanent executive director.

As of January, Claire Kendall, the agency’s programs and services director, and Joe Ferrada, the finance and operations director, will lead agency efforts to foster growth and development of young children and their families. They have worked for the family center for a combined total of more than 25 years, and have broad experience managing the organization.

Their work will give the agency’s board of directors time to hunt for Lauber’s successor.

The Family Center of Washington County is one of 15 organizations around the state that offer a variety of programs to help children and their families get off to a healthy start, promote well-being, and build on family strengths. In the past year, 3,949 individuals in central Vermont benefited from the family center’s work.
